HELP US SAVE OUR OCEANS
Every day more than 3 thousand TONS OF WASTE reach Guatemala City´s OPEN DUMP SITE located in zone. This is Central America´s biggest OPEN DUMP, and one of the biggest in Latinamerica. It´s approximately the size of 8 soccer stadiums put together. People who earn a living at this site, do so with no kind of protection or equipment (they are exposed daily to toxic gases and liquids), they earn no salary (only make a living off of what they find, which can be anywhere from Q5 to Q50 daily).
THIS HUGE PROBLEM does not end here. Additionaly, Guatemala City (and it´s huge dump) is one of the main WASTE streams for the MOTAGUA RIVER BASIN which onloads in to the Caribean Sea, affecting deeply the LARGEST REEF SYSTEM IN AMERICA. This means that much of your waste ends up in our rivers, oceans and beaches.
The solution is in your hands.
The GOOD NEWS is that 90% of what reaches
the OPEN DUMP is RECYCLABLE.
TOGETHER we can demonstrate
that we can deal with our WASTE in a much BETTER WAY,
LETS CHANGE OUR HABITS
at home, work, and school.
The solution is in your hands... START RECYCLING TODAY, so you can have a positive social and environmental impact. Less trash will reach our landfills and you will help generate hundreds of job opportunities in the recycling industry. CLOSE THE CYCLE, LET´s RECYCLE.
